Three Antique Toy Collecting Guides
Three classic toy collecting guides. All soft cover and massive. A newer edition of each guide has been published. Hake's Price Guide to Character Toys 5th Edition, 2004, 1100 pages - The definitive guide for character toys and memorabilia written by Ted Hake. Ted's short, but focused descriptions are wonderful. Most of the items listed are accompanied by a small photo. Under the Diamond Book Distributor umbrella this book has been expanding in leaps and bounds. Not just a guide, but an excellent reference as well. Size: 7½" x 9½" Schroeder's Collectible Toys Antique to Modern Price Guide, 8th Edition, 2002, 500 pages. - Schroeder's persists in containing information that can't be found anywhere else. They have a particularly good section on wind-up toys organized by country of origin. Their alphabetical listing can be confusing at times. Size: 8½" x 11". O'Brien, Collecting Toy Cars & Trucks, 2nd Edition, 635 pages - OK, I'll admit it's very useful in identifying many transportation toys and the color section and reproduced catalog pages are excellent. But many times the "descriptions" are less than five words and sometimes more confusing than helpful. Later editions have improved somewhat, but the suggested prices are usually unrealistic.
